LUNAFEST is a national film festival that features short films by, for and about women. Established in 2000 by LUNA®, Makers of the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women® to simultaneously promote women filmmakers, raise awareness for women’s issues and support worthy women’s nonprofit organizations.
The LUNAFEST films range from animation to fictional drama and cover topics relating to women’s health, motherhood, body image, relationships, cultural diversity, breaking barriers and more. The films are selected by an outside board of advisors comprised of notables in the film industry.
LUNAFEST will screen at 150 venues nationwide during its 12th season. LUNAFEST events have raised over $785,000 for women’s organizations, while raising awareness for women everywhere.
LUNAFEST Wine Country
The Sonoma County chapter of LUNAFEST was originally brought to the county by Traditional Medicinals®, the Sebastopol-based herbal medicinal tea company. Traditional Medicinals partnered with the non-profit Santa Rosa-based organization Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County and appointed the Sloan House Women's Shelter as the primary recipient of the event's fundraising.
Both LUNA and Traditional Medicinal's share the mission to provide healthy products to promote good health, naturally. It is in this spirit that LUNAFEST Wine Country is aligned with other like-minded individuals and companies in the mission to promote health and well-being of women in Sonoma County.
