Overview of Job

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Area or Site Supervisor, administer a Head Start center operation guided by Head Start Performance Standards, Service Area Written Plans, Procedures, and Policies and California State Community Care Licensing regulations.  Supervises the following staff:  Teacher II, Teacher 1, Site Assistant, and if assigned: Language Resource Aide and Full Inclusion Assistant.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Agency’s policies and applicable federal and state laws. 

Head Teacher I: Teaches children 5 days/week.  Coordinates work and supervises employees of a one classroom site with up to two sessions.
Head Teacher II: Teaches children 5 days/week.  Coordinates work and supervises employees of a site with more than one classroom.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Coordinates and monitors work of center staff, volunteers, consultants and parents.
  • Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and                disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Assists in the fulfillment of administrative requirements and functions as a link between the Head Start Administrative Team      and the center.
  • Adheres to Child Assessment/Observation System & Family Partnership System Timeline
  • Ensures ongoing implementation and completion of Child Observation Assessment System.
  • Ensures prompt and accurate completion of required paperwork related to center operation.
  • In partnership with the Family Services staff, assists parents in conducting their business meetings and provides them             information relevant to the Head Start Program.
  • Ensures and participates in a minimum of 2 parent home visits and 2 conferences.  The first home visit is done in partnership with the Family Outreach Worker. 
  • Assists center staff in coordinating services for children and families.
  • Provides on the job training and support, assessing skill level with employee and developing a plan for individual growth
  • Teaches a Head Start class ensuring that a developmentally appropriate, integrated curriculum is in place.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with consultants and specialists with items relevant to the center and children, ensuring                maximum use of services and resources.
  • May include collaboration/coordination of program services with other community entities: i.e., school districts, those                serving children with diagnosed disabilities, State Child Care programs.
  • Participates in necessary trainings, workshops and meetings, as scheduled.
  • Participates in the team building process within the program by using established communication channels in a                        constructive and productive manner that enhances the team effort.
  • Other relevant duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR EXPERIENCE :

  1. BA or advanced degree in ECE or BA or advanced degree  with 12 core units of ECE, and 3 units

supervised field experience in ECE setting or CCTC approved training

       B. Teaching or Administration credential with 12 core units of ECE, plus, 3 units supervised field      
experience in ECE setting; or CCTC approved training
OR
       C.  AA (or 60 units) with 24 ECE/CD units (incl. core units) and the willingness to complete a BA by 2013
In addition to A, B, or C:

  • Two years teaching experience in a pre-school classroom
  • Current Pediatric First Aid, CPR and Health and Safety Course
  • Valid California Driver's License and a properly insured vehicle for use on the job
  • Prior to beginning work, must be able to pass the Community Care Licensing criminal record clearance

      and have a current (within one year) TB clearance

  • A “Health Screening Report” must be on file within 7 days of employment.

With supervision, coordinates activities for one classroom of children, guided by Head Start Performance Standards, Service Area Written Plans, Procedures, and Policies and California State Community Care Licensing regulations. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the Agency’s policies and applicable federal and state laws.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·     Teach a Head Start class ensuring that a developmentally appropriate, integrated curriculum is in place  

·     Adhere to Child Assessment/Observation System & Family Partnership System Timeline

·     Ensure and participate in a minimum of 2 parent home visits and 2 conferences per child.  The first home visit is done in partnership with the Family Outreach Worker.

·     Prepare and present daily curriculum using appropriate materials.

·     Working in partnership with the Head Teacher or Site Supervisor, provide daily leadership in the classroom including indirectly supervising and directly guiding the work of Teacher I, Site Assistant,  Language Resource Aide and Full Inclusion Assistant if assigned, and classroom volunteers;  provide ongoing communication regarding employee’s skill development and ideas for further growth

·     Work in partnership with service area managers and center staff to better assess the needs of the children and families to ensure quality services to children and families

·     Ensure daily cleaning of classroom and playground and proper maintenance of classroom equipment

·     Maintain classroom files on children and ensure confidentiality of records and client information

·     Maintain health and safety standards for children, classroom volunteers and staff

·     Ensures prompt and accurate completion of required paperwork related to center operation

·     Work in partnership with service area managers, supervisors and center staff to better assess the needs of the children and families to ensure quality services to children and families

·     Maintains warm, friendly and professional working relationships with children, parents and coworkers

Overview of Job

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:  The Recovery Act Shelter Assistant maintains the emergency shelter for women, alerts the Supervisor to actual or potential problems with the residents and works with residents to enroll them in benefits, support employment, and find housing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts intakes and screenings of new clients as trained and directed.
  • Assign household chores to residents.
  • Remind residents of rules and procedures when necessary; enforce rules including the collection of urine samples for drug testing as trained. 
  • Notify the Supervisor immediately of any emergency or disruptive situations at the shelter.
  • Assist the Supervisor in maintaining an inventory of food and household supplies at the shelter appropriate to the needs of the residents.
  • Notify the Supervisor of any maintenance or repairs needed at the facility.
  • Maintain confidentiality of potential and actual clients, and the location of the facility.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • As trained and assigned, do outreach for public benefit programs, including the Earned Income Tax Credit, Universal Lifeline, Utility payments, Healthy Families, WIC, food Stamps, job training.
  • As trained and assigned, make group presentations and do staff training on public benefits.
  • As trained and assigned, work one-on-one with individuals to provide case management services.
  • Enter data as trained and requested into resident files and the Web based data system.
  • Attend agency meetings and trainings as appropriate.
  • Complies with Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County Policies and procedures and Affirmative Action Plan and contract requirements.
  • Participates, as available, in diversity workshops.
  • Other duties as agreed.

While Recovery Act funding is time limited, ending on September 30, 2010, this position has the potential to develop into a permanent position with additional funding.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent verbal skills. 
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license, good driving record and the use of properly insured vehicle, per California requirements. 
  • Intermediate computer skills, able to be proficient in data entry and email within three months
  • Ability to use copier and phone system, access email and enter data into a web-based data system. 

            PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

  • Ability to maintain boundaries between residents and staff. 
  • Ability to interact and communicate well with other staff to provide cohesive team approach. 
  • Ability to effectively carry out the job duties under general, rather than direct, supervision. 
  • Ability to get along with all kinds of people in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, including the ability to actively listen and clearly explain rules and procedures.   
  • Awareness and sensitivity of the needs of low-income, minority, domestic violence, substance-abuse and mentally ill populations.
