2007 - 2008 Annual Head Start/Early Head Start Program Report

"All three of my kids went to Head Start. Everything about the program is good; nutrition, education and volunteering!"

- Head Start Parent

Thank you for your interest in Head Start in Sonoma County!  We are always excited to get a chance to talk about our programs.  Head Start serves the child development needs of preschool children (birth through age five) and their low-income families.

In Sonoma County we have two federal Head Start programs, the first is an Early Head Start program serving pregnant moms, infants, and toddlers through age 36 months.  This is a small program currently only funded to serve 32 children and their families.  Early Head Start has a triple mission.  It promotes healthy prenatal outcomes, enhances the development of infants and toddlers, and promotes healthy family functioning.

CAP Sonoma also operates a “regular” Head Start program throughout Sonoma County, as illustrated on this map.

The program participants’ parents direct Head Start with input from the community.  We actively work with volunteers.   If you would like more information about becoming a Head Start volunteer please call our office at 544-6911.

For more information on the National Head Start program or history, please visit their web site.
