Healthy Mothers – Healthy Smiles

POH LogoThe Healthy Mothers – Healthy Smiles Perinatal Oral Health Programhelps pregnant women learn about the importance of Oral Health for themselves and for their newborn babies. A healthy mouth is important for a pregnant woman’s general health and well-being and can help prevent poor birth outcomes. The healthier a Mother’s mouth, the less chance that her newborn will become infected with decay causing bacteria.

Dental disease is a preventable disease. The women who participate in this program are counseled on disease prevention for themselves and their babies and then referred to a dental provider to receive preventive services (cleanings and exams).

The Healthy Mothers-Healthy Smiles program is a collaborative effort of public and private agencies in our county and is funded by First 5 of Sonoma County.
