Micro Business Development

BusinessDevCommunity Action Partnership implemented the Micro Business Development (MBD) program in July 2012 as a way to spur economic development and move individuals and families out of poverty through asset development. MBD is a business readiness training program to help individuals and families achieve greater self-sufficiency.

A micro business is any type of small business that has fewer than five employees and is small enough to benefit from loans of under $35,000. In general, microenterprises do not meet the credit and/or collateral requirements necessary to access conventional financial services. About 85% of all business in US is a Micro Business and generate about 25% of all jobs in the US economy. An estimate of 4.2 Million Californians is employed by micro-businesses. They offer services ranging from car repairs to day care programs, and products ranging from specialty foods to clothing.

The Micro Business Development Program offers three different services:

  • Training on Business Concepts
  • Mentoring & Coaching
  • Access to Funds

Mentoring & Coaching

The goal of the MBD Mentoring Program is to provide a way for our MBD clients who are ready to start or expand a business to get advice and support to develop the skills they need to plan, market, and manage their business. Mentoring/coaching takes many forms, but in this program we focus on one-on-one mentoring/coaching.A mentor/coach is a trusted counselor or guide who has the ability to lead, inspire and motivate his or her mentee by expanding his or her awareness, insight, and perspective. Mentors/coaches are a powerful force for developing successful professionals.

Access to Funds
